This Journal was largely written by Gustavus Adlerfeld, Chamberlain to Charles XII, King of Sweden, chronicling his activities during the Great Northern War of 1700–1721. It was originally written in Swedish, later translated to French, and in 1740 translated into English. That is the version edited and annotated here by Roger Reynolds. Volume Two starts in the summer of 1704 with the fall of Narva, and goes through to January 1708, with the Swedish Army about to invade Russia. Discussed are the battles of Posen and Punitz in 1704; the battles of Gemauerthof and Rakowitz in 1705. Also covered is the dethronement of Augustus II as Polish king and his replacement by Stanislaw Leszczynski. The 1706 siege of Grodno and battles of Fraustadt and Kalisz, and subsequent invasion and occupation of Saxony by Charles XII are discussed. A detailed description of the 1707 march from Saxony, through Poland, and stop short of Grodno as preparation for the invasion of Russia, ends this volume.
