This is an authentic Nazi Germany DRL cloth sports patch badge awarded to men and women, ages 18 to 24, to encourage achievements in physical education. This patch, when earned would have been sewn onto an athletic uniform. It dates back to the Imperial German Empire with the Award for Physical Exercise & was continuously amended and expanded during the Weimar Republic (1918-1933) & into Nazi Germany. The Bronze patch was awarded to those who passed the five components of the physical fitness test within a period of 12 months. The tests included various activities in running, swimming, jumping, weight throwing, and speed tests. DESCRIPTION: Embroidered golden yellow/bronze stitching sewn on a black rayon backing. Obverse: Features the acronym DRL with a swastika at the base.
