Description Indian Recruiting Badge, GVI, officially numbed 3000 to reverse. This unusual and scarce badge was formerly awarded for World War 1 with a different design before being re-instituted with a new design by King George VI for World War 2. It is made from silver with bronze centre featuring King George VI. Some period information on the new award from the Civil & Military Gazette 12th August 1944 reads; “BADGE FOR OUTSTANDING RECRUITING WORK Silver Star Enclosing Bronze Plaque New Delhi, August 11 – Wives whose husbands and two or more sons or daughters are serving with the forces will be able to wear a Recruiting Badge which is to be awarded by the Government of India. Fathers or mothers who have 3 or more sons or daughters in the forces will also be eligible. The badge is being awarded to individuals other than officers of the defence services for outstanding recruiting work. It consists of a silver star enclosing a bronze plaque bearing an effigy of the King. Around the plaque is a scroll with the word ‘For Recruiting’. The badge is suspended by a ring from an emerald green ribbon two inches in length and will be worn on the right breast. An Indian Army Order regarding the badge will be issued in due course.”
