Description Naval General Service Medal, EIIR, bar Near East, L/SFX 883937 David Edwin J. Sedgemore, Naval Airman (O), Fleet Air Arm, Royal Navy. For the 1956 Suez Crisis, Op Musketeer. Officially impressed: “L/SFX 883937 D.E.J. Sedgemore. N.A.M. (O) R.N.” With a ribbon bar consisting of this NGS ribbon and the Police LSGC. David Edwin J. Sedgemore was born in Exeter, Devon on 21st May 1933. As a young man he looks to have served in Fleet Air Arm branch of the Royal Navy, earning this medal when he was about 23 years old for his part in Operation Musketeer. He married in Plymouth during January 1959 to Marjorie M. Reddard. Judging from his ribbon bar, after leaving the Navy he looks to have taken on a career as a Policeman. He later died on 11th October 2005 in Cirencester, Gloucestershire. One of the famous moments of the Suez Crisis, known as Operation Musketeer, was when the Royal Marines Commando were dropped into Egypt by the Fleet Air Arm by Helicopter, a relatively new invention at the time, which marked the first “Heliborne” attack in the history of warfare.
