Description India General Service Medal 1908, GV, bar North West Frontier 1930-31, 547675 Trooper John William Green, 15th-19th The King’s Royal Hussars Officially impressed: “547675 Tpr J.W. Green. 15-19 H.” Confirmed on the Medal Roll, with Tank Corps enlistment book entry. John William Green was born on 29th June 1908 in Ashover, Chesterfield, Derby. He attested for service for a “6/6” term of engagement (6 Years full time, 6 Years Army Reserve) on 28th September 1927 at Derby having worked in a Haulage yard. He was originally with the 14/20th Hussars before transferring to the 15/19th on 9th October 1928. Having finished out his 6 years of active service, he was transferred to Section B Army Reserve from 29th December 1933 to finish out his 6 years in the reserve. However this looks to have been interrupted as the war broke out before he could finish out his Army Reserve commitment being brought back into service. His entry notes that he “Transferred to Royal Army Service Corps on 23rd June 1943”. He later died in Chesterfield during March 1986. During his period of active service earning this medal, the 15/19th Hussars were posted to India to be based at Risalpur. They then took part in active operations in the North West Frontier during the “Redshirt Rebellion” of 1930-31.
