The Husaria, also known as the winged hussars, were a Polish heavy cavalry formation that fought from 1503 to 1776. They were known for their large wooden wings decorated with feathers, which were intended to demoralize enemies during a charge.This book offers a history of these men and their units along with a detailed description of the armor, types of weapons, organization and social status of the winged hussars in the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland. It chronicles the changes in armor and weapons from the hussars' reforms during the reign of Stefan Batory through the 17th century when they achieved a nearly divine status as an unbeatable and immensely feared force and finally their decline in the 18th century.
